Understanding Threats, Empowering Communities.

Human security is a real and everyday concern in Ghana. Many communities continue to face challenges such as fraud, exploitation, violence, social vulnerabilities and other forms of crime that directly affect people’s lives. At CISAB, our work in Human Security and Intelligence is centred on protecting the safety of our citizens by staying ahead of these threats before they cause harm.

We believe that keeping people safe begins with understanding what is happening around them. That means recognising early signs of risk, paying attention to the behaviour of criminals and watching how certain threats evolve. This is why intelligence is a key part of what we do.

Our work involves gathering information from different places and turning it into something useful. We pay attention to what people in communities say and experience, which forms our Human Intelligence (HUMINT). We also monitor what is shared openly online, in the news, and across social platforms as part of our Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT). In addition, we take note of the early whispers, community talk and unconfirmed reports that often signal the beginning of a problem — what is commonly known as Rumour Intelligence (RUMINT).

By bringing these sources together, we study the information carefully, look for patterns and identify where people may be at risk. Once we understand what is happening, we turn those insights into clear guidance that helps prevent harm, informs awareness and strengthens the ability of communities and partners to respond more quickly.

Through this approach, CISAB works to bridge the gap between emerging threats and the safety of ordinary people. Our goal is straightforward: to ensure that Ghanaians are better informed, better protected and better prepared as the security landscape continues to change.
